Nintendo has just confirmed that the Wii Mini is real, and will be released on December 7. Surprisingly the redesigned console is being launched exclusively in Canada.
Details regarding a wider launch are currently unavailable, with the official Nintendo website stating: "No information is available about its potential availability in other territories in the future."
Whilst there's no word on a European release date yet, we do know that the console will retail for $99.99 in Canada, and that it will be available in matte black with a red border. The blurb on the website also reveals that "the system comes with a red Wii Remote Plus, a red Nunchuk controller and works with most Wii accessories."
Hopefully Nintendo will clarify which accessories will and won't work on the redesigned unit. According to Kotaku, the new Wii will not play Gamecube titles and won't support wifi features either. That won't affect everybody, but it's worth bearing in mind if you're drawn to the bold new aesthetic style of the hardware.
"There are games in the Wii library for every type of player," said Nintendo of Canada's Ron Bertram. "Wii Mini is a great gift for the holidays that brings everyone in the family together to play. Wii Mini has a mini price, but it's all about big fun."
