Japanese games to aid DS

New localizations are key to keep it alive

Nintendo 3DS is released next year, but Nintendo have promised that they won't forget the trusty old Nintendo DS (they better not, considering the millions of units sold since launch). They will spend most of their energy (and money) on 3DS-titles though, but Nintendo top Nintendog has a solution: translate Japanese games that were never released here.

"Even some of the titles that Mr. Miyamoto was involved with, such as the original Animal Crossing, were first launched only in Japan, and only after the localisation teams outside Japan were able to appreciate the appeal of the software, our overseas subsidiaries requested us to launch the same titles in their countries," Iwata said in an investor call.

"Taking advantage of such software may be one of the ways to deal with your question about the transitional period from Nintendo DS to Nintendo 3DS."

Considering the amount of cool games that never seem to make it outside of Japan, I can only support this idea.
