Level-5 want to bring Professor Layton to Switch

As long as they can get past one hurdle.

The Professor Layton series has been hugely successful on the Nintendo DS family of handheld consoles, but we've never seen a title on a home console yet. The series has so far relied on touchscreen gameplay, and no home console so far has supported that, and understandably so. But the Nintendo Switch does, so can we expect to see a Layton game on Nintendo's latest console?

It turns out the guys over at Level-5 want it to happen. They can utilise the touch screen in handheld mode, but the major design problem they've stumbled across is that they're not sure how the game would work when the Switch is docked. Eurogamer spoke to Layton producer Akihiro Hino at E3 about the situation, and here's what he had to say:

"I played Zelda. I love the Switch. I think it's amazing hardware. The problem is, the Layton series does a lot with the touchscreen and pointing. So, the problem with the Switch is, if you play on handheld you can do it, but if you put it on the dock... we're trying to figure out how that would play into it. If we can get around that and figure out a way of doing it, definitely we're looking into putting the next Layton onto the Switch."

Would you play a Professor Layton game on the Switch if they manage to overcome this problem? Let us know in the comments.
