FoxNext is working on a location-based VR game based on the Alien franchise, it has been revealed.

A report in The Hollywood Reporter outlined the premise of the game and reported on a proof of concept demo, which itself precedes a game that will be for up to four players and set in a free-roam 2,000 square foot environment.

FoxNext is collaborating with iP2 Entertainment and sister company (and VR specialists) Pure Imagination Studios. The game will use custom built guns that come equipped with haptic feedback and hand tracking, and will utilise environmental effects such as "heat, mist, a motion platform and physical elements to create a visceral experience."

FoxNext president Salil Mehta told the site that properties such as Night at the Museum, Ice Age and Planet of the Apes are also in mind for location-based attractions at the upcoming Fox World Malaysia.

"There's an incredible opportunity to marry this with what we're doing in VR and bring VR to locations," Mehta said. "We have an incredible property in Alien and with the timing of the movie and the experience, we can make something genre defining."

"We are constantly assessing properties for the potential they have in the VR attraction space, and being immersed in the Alien universe inspires some of the most compelling and emotional reactions," Joshua Wexler, co-founder of Pure Imagination, added.

With FoxNext incorporating three different teams (FoxNext Games, FoxNext VR Studio, and FoxNext Destinations), it looks like the company is very much focused on VR as a way of bringing its various IP to life.
