Paradox Interactive has just announced a new mobile-focused development studio, which will operate out of the fair city of Malmö, Sweden. The recent announcement by the company that they'll be publishing the mobile version of Prison Architect at some point in the spring of this year feeds into this, with Kim Nordström explaining:

"Our plan is to bring the iconic Paradox style to mobile players across a broad catalog of titles. To achieve that, it's important that we bring aboard the right people - people capable of delivering the kind of hardcore strategic titles we're known for on PC. Games like Prison Architect: Mobile are just the beginning!"

We've spoken to people at the company before about their early experimentations in the mobile space, and it's something they've been looking at for a number of years now. Fitting a grand strategy game onto a touchscreen is no easy thing, but if they can work out how to do it in an intuitive and accessible way, then the publisher has a stack of games and series that are ready to be ported/adapted for tablets, including Crusader Kings, Europa Universalis, Hearts of Iron, and last year's Stellaris.
