What if Xbox Live was a physical space?

Microsoft recently gave their Financial Analyst Briefing 2017, during which Phil Spencer shared some interesting views about what he calls the 'Metaverse' (as provided by NeoGAF user JINX).

The 'Metaverse', he explained, was his idea regarding a scenario where the Xbox Live network was a physical space, so when you log into the network you could walk into a room and interact with avatars directly (something like a hub world).

"Metaverse isn't something we've talked a ton about," he explained, "but when you think about somebody living in a virtual social network like Xbox Live, and then that environment becoming actually physical, so that I walk into a room when I log into Xbox Live, and I see all my friends' avatars in that space, and I'm actually able to interact with them directly. The gaming assets that we've built, the friend network that we have, the personas that people have created on Xbox Live, [they'll] be incredibly important."

Do you like the idea of a 'Metaverse'?
