Back in February, EA revealed that the next Need for Speed game will launch before April next year and that it'll have "a bigger focus on competitive online play and incredible graphics". Not exactly much to go on, but now we have some more details.

First of all, the game will be released this autumn, so we won't have to wait too long. Secondly, there'll once again be a big focus on customisation, not just in terms of visuals, but also because we'll get to race on both tarmac and dirt in the open world. You might want to tune those suspensions as well, as we're told there will be "epic jumps" too.

Just be careful not to sacrifice too much speed, as the cops of the series return. They seem to have received an upgrade as well, with Ghost Games mentions the cops using a Rhino.

Then there's the biggest controversy about the last game; always-online. The studio has heard the complaints and promises that we'll be able to "play through a single player experience completely offline," which also means being able to pause the game as well.

That's all EA wants to say for now, but we're told there will be more news before the EA Play conference next month. What does this Need for Speed game need to do to be truly great?
