Earlier today, we heard new rumours about the next Assassin's Creed game, and now we have news about the next entry in another Ubisoft franchise, Far Cry 5.
It was Great Falls Tribune who first revealed that a local church in Montana would be featured in an upcoming video game due for release in September. The footage they were filming was apparently mostly to be used as marketing material for the game, so it was probably a live action trailer. Some speculated that this might be for the highly anticipated Red Dead Redemption 2, but let's face it: Rockstar isn't exactly known for using live action footage. No, we've heard that this is for the next Far Cry game.
Do you remember the poll Ubisoft sent out two years ago, asking what kind of setting we wanted from the next Far Cry game? Then you might remember that one of the alternatives were "Spaghetti Western style set in the late 19th century America". It would seem that many gamers had that one very high on their list. Three sources we've spoken to have confirmed that the next Far Cry will indeed be set in America, but only one claims that it'll be set during the 19th century. The other to claims that it'll have a more modern setting, but still retain some classic Western aspects. Here, we'll get to explore Ubisoft's version of Montana while horseback riding and enjoying activities such as poker and Mexican standoffs. We've also heard that Ubisoft is considering releasing the game early this fall, but might delay it due to the very strong competition it'll probably get around that time.
Does this sound like the direction you wanted the series to go, or were you hoping for something different?
