The film adaptation of Microsoft's incredibly successful Gears of War franchise was announced 10 years ago, back in 2007. Back then New Line Cinema picked up the production rights and had Len Wiseman as director and Stuart Beattie as the main scriptwriter, but three years later production was halted. It gained traction again in 2012, with producer Scott Stuber at the helm, but more production troubles meant it wasn't until late last year that Universal Studios announced they'd acquired the rights and were working once again to bring Gears of War to the big screen.

Shane Salerno has been reported by Deadline as one of the screenwriters, and is known for the four upcoming Avatar sequels, along with Armageddon, Aliens vs Predator: Requiem, and the latest Ghost Recon release, Wildlands. This news has since been confirmed by Rod Fergusson, Gears of War developer at The Coalition, so hopefully we can see the film actually come to something this time around.
