Star Wars Battlefront II was revealed recently at Star Wars Celebration, and in the trailer we see the game's main character, Iden Versio, struggle to find the Empire she has been serving for many years crumbling at the hands of the Rebellion.
While the trailer, and subsequent interviews, offer many intriguing details into a part of the Star Wars canon rarely explored, many seem to be quite interested in why DICE specifically chose Iden Versio, and also why she's a woman.
Luckily, DICE doesn't spend much time in justifying why, but recently, game director Mark Thompson took his time to explain their process to Eurogamer:
"My personal belief is it's just about it making a good character. I don't care about anything else. If the character makes sense to the story, if the character belongs in that universe then everything else is unimportant."
"Does it feel right for this story? Does it feel right for Star Wars? Is that character interesting and relatable, is it someone we can connect with? Those are the important things, everything else is unimportant."
We concur.
