When Nintendo showed Zelda Breath of the Wild 2D prototype at GDC, more than a couple of fans thought that concept could actually turn into an enjoyable game. As the Switch/Wii U masterpiece is the first of the series to use more realistic physics-based puzzles and situations in an open world, Nintendo EAD devs thought they might as well use the very first NES game's 2D assets to quickly test those potential mechanics in a simple, easy-to-test playable form.

Now, Micropig Gaming is actually creating a fan project based on the same premise: 8-bit style top-down view presentation with some added physical reactions. Before being hit by the likely C&D notice from Nintendo, his progress can be seen on YouTube, and includes tree-chopping, day/night cycle or even Korog-leaf blowing, among other things. On top of that, creator Winter Drake, told Kotaku that he'll keep on adding more areas and elements as long as he is allowed.

Would you like to play an official or unofficial NES-style Zelda with Breath of the Wild freedom and a similar physics concepts?
