Overwatch on Switch isn't as easy as you'd expect

Jeff Kaplan is still keeping an open mind though.

Last month we reported that Blizzard isn't ruling out a Switch version of Overwatch, but in an interview with The Daily Express, game director Jeff Kaplan commented on the difficulty of bringing the game to the new console. This is due in part to the challenge of maintaining quality over time on four different platforms, as Overwatch is currently out on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

"I think the problem is, we've really targeted our min spec in a way that we would have to revisit performance and how to get on that platform. And also, it's already challenging right now maintaining three platforms and patching simultaneously, which is something that we've finally been able to achieve," Kaplan explains. "Our first couple of patches would come out on PC first and then later on the consoles. And a lot of that is because you're working with Microsoft and Sony, and you want to be compliant to their ecosystems, adding a third ecosystem to that just adds a lot of complexity to us, as well."

All hope is not lost, though, as Kaplan added that Blizzard is still "very open-minded about what platforms we could be on. Just because we do not have a platform right now, it does not mean we will not reconsider it in the future, so we will stay aware of all these things."

Do you think Overwatch is compatible with the Switch?
