Lego City Undercover was almost 20 gigabytes in file size for the Wii U when it launched back in 2013, but when it arrives to Switch in early April, the cartridge is only 7 gigabytes. Seems weird, right? It turns out there's a good explanation, as Warner has opted for a smaller cartridge, maybe to make it cheaper, and therefore doesn't have all the needed data included. That means that even if you buy the game, you still need a 13 gigabyte download.
Since Switch only has 32 gigabytes of built in memory, this is kind of a big deal. We don't know exactly what these 13 gigabytes include yet, but the front of the packaging clearly states that an internet connection is required for the game. This is probably for the download of the extra data rather than a constant demand, and we don't know yet whether the cartridge is playable at all by itself.
What do you think of a solution like this? Is it a good way to cut costs or should everything you need be on the cartridge?
