Supporting 4K resolution is one of the main appeals for the PS4 Pro for many, and that's why many video games and apps such as YouTube and Netflix are compatible with it, but not the official PS4 Media Player. That's about to change, though, as Sony has just announced a new update, coming on Tuesday.
"Following this update, 4K videos in mp4 format saved on a USB stick or home server can be played on the Media Player app (remember, you'll also need a 4K compatible TV to watch the videos in 4K)," says the PlayStation Blog, but remember that 4K Blu-ray discs don't run on PS4 Pro.
This update will also benefit PlayStation VR players with a PS4 Pro, because the Media Player will start supporting 4K video content, but not the way you'd expect. "PSVR's display resolution is 1920 x RGB x 1080, therefore 4K VR videos will be displayed in a higher image quality compared to HD VR videos."
Did this missing 4K feature bother you, or were you fine with Netflix and YouTube?
