If your ship is your pride and joy in Elite: Dangerous, then you'll probably be interested in the latest piece of news shared by senior community manager Edward Lewis on the game's forums regarding ship naming.
"There's been a number of questions from Commanders regarding ship naming and how ship name plates will work so we wanted to give you a little more information about how these features will work when they're released," Lewis started.
When you name your ship in game, he explained, the name will appear in multicrew grouping as well as your HUD. Also, in beta 5, when players scan you or target you in space, they can also see the ship name, with this feature being available for all players, including PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
That's not all though, as Lewis also revealed cosmetic ship name plates, which will be made available in themed packs in the store, each containing three designs in three colours: black, white, and grey. When you buy these, you can then use them across all ships, except for ship-launched fighters and SRVs, and each pack of nine varient plates will cost £2. "This means that purchasing one pack of name plates will allow you to use that style across all of your current and future ships, at the same time and rename each individual ship as many times as you like," Lewis explained. "We believe this flexibility offers Commanders great value and is a great way to help support the continued development of Elite Dangerous."
