First it was reported that Factor 5 was letting about half of its staff go with less than 40 people remaining. Now it seems the esteemed developer may have to close down altogether.
According to Matt Casamassina at the IGN boards a source close to the company said it was all over:
"...wanted me to contact you with some late breaking news. We just learned from inside sources that developer Factor 5 has officially closed their doors as of today. That's some pretty big news considering that those guys have been around for quite a while. It's definitely a real shame! I hope that this information is helpful to you."
Factor 5 was struggling after loosing its only current publishing contract with Brash Entertainment packing up. As the case was with several other developers Factor had not been paid in full what was owed to them, and with the current credit crunch its hard to find money fast. It would be a shame to see Factor 5 fall victim to these turbulent times. Sure, Lair wasn't all we hoped for, but the rich heritage of Turrican and the Rogue Squadron franchise we would have liked to have seen them survive. Hopefully, we will have more news soon.
