Nintendo have released their latest financial report and in it the Japanese gaming giant revealed the number of Wii U units they expect to ship this fiscal year (ending March 31). With 5.5 million Wii U's and an expected 24 million units of Wii U software, the numbers come in a little short compared to the Wii launch, and lower than analysts were expecting. This is likely going to result in some severe shortages during the initial launch period.

Overall Nintendo cut their profit projections for the full year from 20 billion yen to a mere 6 billion yen, after taking some heavy losses due to the strong yen. Nintendo 3DS unit sales and software sales were weaker than expected overseas (Europe and America). For the six months starting in April Nintendo have sold 5.06 million Nintendo 3DS units, 980,000 Nintendo DS units, 1.32 million Wii units, putting the lifetime sales at 22.19 million (3DS), 152.5 million (DS), and 97.18 million (Wii).
