It's almost become par for the course for film adaptations of popular video games to take a really long time, and go through several iterations, scripts, and directors before it's finally on track. The Uncharted film has certainly helped keep this trend alive, but now it seems the film is finally coming along.

Currently, the script has been finished by writer Joe Carnahan, and he recently revealed in an interview with Collider that he expects the movie to receive an R-rating.

"When I wrote Uncharted, I didn't spare the rod. I wrote it the way the video game is. They swear in the game, they're kinda foul-mouthed, and I kept all that stuff intact, and I definitely didn't write it as a PG-13 movie. I wrote it the way that movie should be written."

Additionally, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and The Last of Us: Part II director Neil Druckmann has criticised Carnahan for implying the Naughty Dog is creatively involved and happy with the script, as none of them at the studio have read it. Here's what he said on Twitter:

"A recent quote from the writer of the Uncharted film. We know nothing about the film. Wish he'd stop implying that he has our support."

"No one at Naughty Dog has read the script. No idea what the movie is about let alone its tone."

Should video game films tone the adult content down to get a more family-friendly rating, or should they be faithful to the content of their games?
