When Project Scorpio was initially revealed last summer, it was with the promise of two major technological innovations - gaming in native 4K and "high fidelity VR". Since then we've heard mixed reports of the native 4K part, and that the console might opt for a checkerboard rendering solution, in the same vein as the PlayStation 4 Pro.
However, according to Michael Goodman of Strategic Analysts, being able to support native 4K across a wide variety of titles will be the main marketing tool of the Scorpio. He's said the following in an interview with WeWriteThings:
"Can you really see a difference between playing games in upscale versus native 4K? Again this is another one of those aspects that's really going to be a marketing tool. Microsoft will be able to say 'oh yeah, well we are doing native 4K' just like right now Sony can say we're a more powerful system."
What do you think? Does Microsoft need native 4K as a marketing tool to make it stand out over the PS4 Pro?
