Recently Marvel Games announced a longer partnership with Square Enix, which among other things will result in a Avengers project from Eidos Montreal and Crystal Dynamics. Together with the announcement, Marvel Games announced that they've begun taking more care of upcoming games based on their IP, and so they'll be more creatively involved in the future.
Recently Marvel Games' Creative Director Bill Rosemann spoke at DICE 2017 (via Dualshockers), and here he explained the kind of freedom developers have with their iconic characters:
"We want all of our games to tell an original, all new story. We want [our development partners] to have passion, we want them to put their stamp on the games. It's their game. We want it to be their vision."
"We want every game to be game of the year. So we're focusing on each game at a time. We know there are certain characters people are really hungry for, [but] right now we're just going to focus on getting those right."
