There's been a shortage of consoles ever since the NES Classic Mini was launched last fall, and last week Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima promised that they are looking for ways to increase production.
With this in mind it seems a bit strange that Norwegian (check locally) stores are claiming to have official word from Nintendo's Nordic distributor Bergsala saying Nintendo has stopped the production. One of these is Spillsjappa, who officially apologises to everyone who's ordered the console as they won't be able to honour all pre-orders.
These are of course very conflicting messages, and we've contacted Bergsala for a comment. This might just be an issue for the Nordic countries, but at the moment we can't say for sure. We'll update the story as it develops.
Update: We received word from the Nordic Nintendo distributor. First, from Finland were the information was essentially confirmed, claiming that the "last shipment" of NES Classic Mini would go out in May. Then we received word from Norway where the information was refuted, stating:
"Production of Nintendo Classic MIni: Nintendo Entertainment System continues on, and Nintendo of Europe will continue to send out consoles on regular basis."
Fales alarm then it would seem. Perhaps a case of miscommunication.
