A German petition is currently looking for signatures to regulate certain so-called "beauty" apps more sharply. More specifically, the creators of the petition want to hinder children's access to plastic surgery apps, in order to protect their perception of their own body and natural beauty.
Psychologist and psychotherapist Gudrun Wiborg, who is also part of the initiative AnyBody Germany, explains the motivations behind the petition on the change.org site: "The beauty app or apps that propagate beauty treatments do not help our children along this path. These apps are instrumental in destroying a self-centered relationship with one's own body."
"These beauty surgery apps with their frequently animated characters are already available for nine-year-old children - a target group that is already strongly influenced by our one-sided beauty ideals and negative body image."
