According to a report over on the Korea Times, developer PUBG Corp, a subsidiary of publisher Bluehole, has filed a copyright violation lawsuit aimed at Epic Games with relation to Fortnite and the similarities between that game and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds.
Apparently, the lawsuit was filed at the Seoul Central District Court in January, with the PUBG developer looking to protect its copyright following the release of the standalone Battle Royale mode for Fortnite last year.
The similarities between the games are obvious, with both featuring expansive maps filled with players or small teams of players looking to wipe each other out, with everyone having but one life to play with. It should be noted, however, that PUBG was not the first game to explore the genre.
At the time of the release of Fortnite's Battle Royale mode, the PUBG creators expressed their concerns that Epic was "replicating the experience for which PUBG is known," although it was later clarified that their unhappiness was more to do with the fact that PUBG was made using Epic's Unreal engine and therefore the cloned mode felt like a betrayal.
