In the latest charts coming in from Japan it is clear that Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is doing well, leading both the Media Create and Famitsu charts in dominant fashion. Estimates come in at 187,306 (Media Create) and 231,188 (Famitsu). While these are respectable numbers in the current Japanese market it should be noted that Resident Evil 6 saw numbers three times as high and Resident Evil 5 almost doubled what 7 did. One potential explanation is that the installed base of PS4 is still fairly small in Japan and particularly for Resident Evil 6 the install base of PS3 (and Xbox 360) was a lot bigger in Japan. On a more positive note, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has been more successful with Western audiences. In the Famitsu numbers it was also clear that the game helped spur PS4 sales (+24%) as the console beat the 3DS family of products to the number one hardware spot.

Capcom have announced that Resident Evil 7: Biohazard shipped 2.5 million copies at launch.
