We already knew that Bioware is working on multiple games at the moment, and that one of them is a new IP. Now we know a bit more.
Electronic Arts had their first financial call of 2017 last night, and shared a few interesting details about the game. First of all, it's set to launch before next April. Secondly, it'll be a mix of Bioware's well-known character/story progression and action adventure in a universe that "can be shared with your friends".
A few months ago EA said that they would reveal the game "soon", but we definitely didn't expect it to launch this soon. We're also intrigued by the thought of exploring a Bioware game with friends. Expect to hear more during EA Play in June, if not sooner.
It's been a while since Bioware strayed from the RPG genre. Do you remember MDK2?
Update: Here's what Bioware's Aaron Flynn has to say about the new game on the Bioware blog:
"As we're working hard to finish Mass Effect: Andromeda, I wanted to take a minute to talk about our new IP. As our CEO Andrew Wilson mentioned, we're creating a unique IP that will bring players together in exciting new ways.
There's much more to say in the coming months, but for now, I wanted to offer this additional background.
In 2012, we began crafting a new universe full of new characters, stories, and gameplay. Our ambition is simple: Draw upon 20+ years of development knowledge and lessons to create something fun and new for you to enjoy with your friends."
