As you're more than likely already aware, the new president of the United States started his job recently, and one of the first things he will do is to implement trade tariffs on foreign products to make them more expensive than those made locally.
Video games to a large extent fall under this category, as there are several major European and Japanese developers, and so do the console manufacturers who build their hardware in China. If this happens and a general trade tariff is imposed, it would make both games and consoles more expensive in the US.
What the effects of this might be remains to be seen, but it might turn out to be a blow for our hobby since it would make it more expensive in the long run. A side effect might also be that other countries or unions might start at trade war on American products, which ironically might make games and consoles more expensive on these shores as well.
What do you think the impact of this move will be? Will we see a rise in video game prices?
Thanks Polygon.
