The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild looks quite impressive, but despite being shown of numerous times, we know very little of the backstory and the narrative of the game.

That's all set to change now though, as the backstory has been revealed via a translation of a map that comes with the game's Special Edition.

The text on the map is written in a special made-up Sheikah language, and after a brief glimpse at the text during a Nintendo Treehouse show, translator Zeltik has provided us with a full translation, with an error margin of "about 4%".

Warning: This may contain mild spoilers

"Hylians pass stories of a destined time long past where multiple races lived and worked together in harmony. The Sheikah Tribe's blue aura breathed through the land and this mutual prosperity continued until a cataclysmic disaster stuck. The Hero and the Princess attempted to seal the terror which became known as the Calamity Ganon. Divine beasts awoke from four directions and deployed a mechanical army which made the King and his people fearful. They fractured Ganon's power and sealed him but the Sheikah were banished from the land ever since."
