AppStore prices raised 25 percent in the UK

As the sterling falls, prices are on the rise.

The sterling has taken a plummet following the vote to leave the European Union and today this was highlighted as Apple decided to adjust prices on the AppStore to reflect this. Apps that were previously £0.79 are now £0.99 or the same as their dollar equivalent ($0.99). Of course, the UK price includes VAT, and while the 25% price hike is not entirely justified (the pound has fallen about 19% compared to the dollar since the Brexit vote) it was expected as many prices on tech items has been raised since the referendum.

Subscriptions are not affected by this change and Apple are also introducing new lower price points to help publishers navigate this new reality. The change has yet to come into effect, but we suspect it will happen very soon.

Fingerlab's recently released Yuri is currently £2.29 on the UK AppStore, but will be priced at £2.99 as the new prices come into effect.

Prices on AppStore were also raised in India and Turkey.

Thanks, BBC for bringing this to our attention.
