The Switch's Joy-Con Grip doesn't charge the controllers

But you can buy one that will charge them if you want.

One of the best features coming with the Nintedo Switch is the Joy-Con controllers. They can be used individually, bolted onto the sides of the screen when the console is out of its dock, and used with a Joy-Con Grip to make a controller for use either in or out of the dock.

However, keeping the Joy-Cons powered when in controller mode won't be as simple as you might imagine as the Grip accessory that comes packed in with the console won't charge the pint-sized controllers. You can buy a rechargeable one for £27.99 that you can power via a USB cable, but for those without this handy piece of kit, you'll have to charge the Joy-Cons by hooking them up to the Switch directly.

The controllers have 20+ hours of battery life we're told, and you can always take the Switch out of the dock to play on the small screen and charge at the same time if you need to, so theoretically running out of power shouldn't be an issue. Still, if you want to play on your controller and charge the Joy-Cons at the same time, either in TV or tabletop mode, you'll need to invest in an extra piece of hardware.

We got our hands on Nintendo's innovative new console-handheld hybrid in London on Friday, and you can read more about our experiences with Switch by hitting this link.
