Acer has revealed a new gaming laptop called the Predator 21 X, which features a curved monitor with eye-tracking technology, Tobii, promising a deeper immersion for shooters and compatibility with 45 titles such as Watch Dogs 2 or Elite: Dangerous. Here is how the company describes Tobii:
"Tobii eye tracking uses the gamer's eye movement to create a new input modality. Pairing eye tracking with mouse and keyboard or gamepad controls give gamers a richer, more immersive experience as they are able to mimic actions that occur in real life, such as looking for cover or aiming at a target. Camera angles also automatically rotate as the gamer's eye focuses on the edge of the screen, while characters and game environments react as the gamer looks around."
The laptop's screen is 21 inches, with 2560 x 1080 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, not to mention the curved monitor with eye-tracking, which is one of the main reasons for the new Acer Predator 21 X starting at $8,999 US dollars. This gaming laptop includes the Intel Core i7-7820HK processor, 64GB of RAM, a couple of Nvida GTX 1080 graphic cards, and a lot of memory: "up to four 512GB solid state drives in RAID 0 configuration (including 2 NVMe PCIe SSDs, which are up to 5x faster than SATA SSDs) and a 7200 RPM hard drive of 1TB capacity".
Gamers also need fast input, as we all know, and that's why the Predator 21 X choose a mechanical keyboard featuring Cherry MX Brown switches and individually programmable backlit keys and the Killer DoubleShot Pro to automatically pick the fastest connection between WiFi or Ethernet.
Acer also announced a new version of the more affordable Predator 17 X (at $2,599), coming out this month, while the 21 X will be in stores in February. You can read more about them here. Does this sound like a dream come true?
