But there's still record numbers coming.

It would seem that the dispute between Japan and China is also affecting the gaming industry. In this case, nothing less than the global launch of Wii U.

The new Nintendo console is exceeding expectations with pre-orders selling out (especially the Premium pack), so the company is in a situation similar to that experienced with Wii six years ago: trying to hurry up the production rate and delivery of machines to meet demand.

But some of these efforts will be in vain. Nintendo now prepares to cut their manufacturing and distribution estimation for the Wii U for this fiscal year, by up to one million units due to the impact of a fire in one of the assembly houses. There's no official confirmation as yet, but it appears that the fire in the factory is due to the tense conflict between Chinese and Japanese governments.

Besides the great impact on the number of Wii U consoles that will go on sale by April, and despite the lack of stock for the future, Nintendo is able to produce consoles faster than they were with the Wii.

The Wii was released worldwide, selling 6 million consoles in the same time period (until March 31, 2007), and Nintendo intended to place up to 8.3 million Wii U consoles in stores during the launch window. Now, according to analyst David Gibson, the figure will stay at a (still record) 7.3 million machines.
