Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare failed to hit the same stride as Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, and so it's no wonder if Activision might be rethinking their strategy in terms of upcoming instalments.

Sledgehammer Games is next on the line, and its chief executives, Michael Condrey, recently posted this 2017 greeting on Twitter teasing the next chapter in the franchise due to release in the fall.

The gun in the image however, seems to deviate quite a bit from recent, futuristic instalments, and instead looks like a M1911, a model used from World War I and all the way through to the Vietnam War. Coincidentally it has been rumoured that Sledgehammer had been working on a Vietnam era game previously.

Do you think the next Call of Duty will take a step back in time, much like Battlefield did recently?
