Nintendo's intellectual property needs to be "fully protected."

Pokémon Prism, a fan-created side story of the Gameboy Colour classic Pokémon Crystal, has been under development for no less than eight years, and it was supposed to be released on Christmas day. That won't happen, however, as the creator Koolboyman tweeted that Nintendo has shut the project down: "I'm sorry everyone, but Pokémon Prism is cancelled. Thank you for your support."

He also added a copy of the mail he got from Nintendo's lawyers: "Nintendo understands that you are a fan of its original products and its Pokémon Franchise. Whilst it is appreciated, it unfortunately does not alter Nintendo's important role to ensure that all of its valuable intellectual property is fully protected and that there is no use made of any of its intellectual property rights without proper supervision and authorisation."

Pokémon Prism was supposed to offer a separate experience that took place in region Naljo (also fan-created). It had 252 pocket monsters from the first four generations, and several unique gameplay additions too. Koolboyman hasn't entirely given up yet, though, and says he will see if there is anything he can do to keep the game alive. He adds that he is not mad at Nintendo either: "I will say this: The 8 years were not wasted. I gained a lot of experience as a game developer that Nintendo can never take away from me."

His earlier project, Pokémon Brown, will also be removed from the internet. Were you looking forward to Pokémon Prism?
