CD Projekt Red has definitely grown from being a small, fairly unknown studio to becoming one of the most respected in the industry. This is mostly due to continually improving The Witcher series, and trying to break now ground, and it seems like they're not ready to rest on their laurels yet either.

NCBR (National Center for Research of Development) has granted them approximately £9 million to work on four different technologies:

• Create giant living cities in an open world game where NPCs and objects react in real time.

• Enhance unique and cinematic sequences.

• Improve face and body animations in open world RPG games.

• Make unique multiplayer gameplay mechanics, including the ability to search for opponents, manage game session, replicate objects, and support for different game modes.

So they're not only looking to improve upon technologies we saw in The Witcher series, but also implement multiplayer for the first time. The application doesn't say whether or not these technologies will be used in Cyberpunk 2077, but we're willing to bet that at least some of these will. Giant cities filled with realistic NPCs, better animations, a more cinematic feel and seamless multiplayer - sounds tempting, doesn't it?
