Sony Computer Entertainment Japan have sparked rumours of backwards compatibility returning to the Playstation 3 by way of a patent filed in February of 2009. Siliconera report that the patent is for a "previous generation console adapter" containing its own processors and DVD decoder. Backwards compatibility with the PS2 was removed from the PS3 in 2007, reportedly as a cost-cutting measure, but now rumours abound that we'll yet again see previous-gen games running on Sony's latest console. We wouldn't start dusting off our discs just yet, though.
