We already knew that one of the reasons we never got to see Doom 4 was because Bethesda felt it was too similar to other shooters. A few screenshots from the cancelled game found their way to the internet last year, but now we finally have some footage of it.
When Danny O'Dwyer left Gamespot he decided to make documentaries about video games, and this time he's doing the history of Doom. The first episode details Id Software's history and the struggles that eventually led to this year's great Doom game. It's here, around the thirteen minute mark, that we get to see some gameplay from the game while the developers talk about it.
The game would have been more realistic than Doom, as it would've taken place on earth, and it was also more story-driven, with a big focus on cinematics. Fortunately they realised that this wasn't the soul of a Doom game, and decided to focus more on the slaying action we ended up with earlier this year. Do you prefer this approach to Doom?
