Miyamoto leaves Switch in the hands of younger developers

He's focusing on other projects like Super Mario Run or Super Nintendo World rides.

Legendary creator Shigeru Miyamoto is still Nintendo's visible head, but for some time now it's been clear that his role in the company is more and more focused on advising and planning, rather than creating and developing, and his recent statements point to an even smaller involvement in Nintendo's latest console, the upcoming Switch.

Similar to what has recently happened with its software division, it's not the veteran, but the new generations of developers at Nintendo, who are taking responsibility for the new hardware:

"We have these younger people in the company who are taking the lead on Switch development and it's really been them that have put this forward and designed this system. They're the ones that have really shepherded it through the process. Because of that, what it's allowed me to do is focus on other projects like Super Mario Run or the Universal theme park. I'm going to keep looking for these kinds of opportunities where I can do something new and fun."

The quote comes from an interview with Glixel, in which Nintendo's guru also admits that some of his second tier franchises such as Star Fox or Pikmin (the former just got a reboot on the Wii U, the latter will get a 3DS adaptation and a fourth entry on the Switch) need a bit more energy and attention.

Do you think Switch system design got a fresh touch to it? How do you imagine Pikmin on it? Leave your comment below.
