It looks like Nintendo's next console, Switch, will continue the recent tradition of including Virtual Console support, with a report suggesting that four games are already tested and working, with more planned.

According to sources close to Eurogamer, GameCube titles Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion and Super Smash Bros. Melee are ready to go, with Animal Crossing also up and running.

The same sources suggest that they've got classics like Donkey Kong, Mario and Zelda working within the Animal Crossing build, so in theory they might also be able to emulate certain classic NES titles that way, which would be a nice bonus.

The site also reports that an upgrade system, similar to one seen on Wii U, is also in the works, meaning we might be able to get games that we already own at a discounted price on the new platform.

Apparently the Virtual Console is being worked on by (Nintendo European Research and Development) NERD, the same studio that took care of the popular NES Mini.

Finally, according to the site, Nintendo is also considering Switch support for the GameCube controller adaptor for Wii U, with the idea being to continue support for Super Smash Bros. Melee, which remains popular as an esport to this day.
