2.6 million units by the end of the year may have been optimistic.

Just before the release of PlayStation VR in October, several analyst firms, one of them being SuperData, estimated that the Sony would sell around 2.6 million units by the end of the year. That estimate was based on a number of factors, such as the size of the install base, the lack of real competition in the console space, and Sony's experience in successful product launches.

Now, SuperData has conceded that they overestimated the performance of PlayStation VR at retail, and has adjusted their forecast accordingly.

SuperData has written a new report, stating that they expect sales numbers to instead hit around 750,000 units by the end of the year. This, according to their report, is because of a "relatively fragmented title line-up and modest marketing effort."

How successful do you think PSVR will be moving forward?
