If you thought you were obsessed with collecting Pokémon cards as a kid, think again. A rare and mint condition Pokémon card has fetched a whopping $54,970 at an auction in Beverly Hills, US by Dallas-based Heritage Auctions.
The card is a "Pikachu Illustrator card" and set a new record for Pokémon card prices. The sold Pokémon Illustrator card was a prize for CoroCoro Comic illustration contests in the late 1990s, and a total of 20-39 cards were awarded. It's unknown as to how many still exist, but we're pretty sure it's not many. Either way, someone is now the happy owner of this card, and another person is $54,000 better off. How much would you spend to get that perfect collector's item?
