Some gamers have vented frustration online after it was revealed that players who bought Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare via the Windows store would not be able to play online with those who purchased the game via Steam.
This has led to a pretty much empty online community on the Windows store side of the fence, and one screenshot shows just two players online for Team Deathmatch, which is staggeringly low. The lack of cross-play between PC Windows customers and Xbox One doesn't help this situation either.
A report online, however, suggests that Activision are responsible for the lack of PC cross-play, as there is "nothing about the UWP toolset that prevents cross-play functionality". The decision to segregate Windows 10 Store and Win32 PC platform players, then, was all on Activision, if these reports are correct.
An official spokesperson from Microsoft also allegedly said:"We support cross-play between devices and platforms for partners who want to enable it."
Now, these aren't necessarily 100% confirmed, but if the sources are correct, Activision took the decision to split the PC playerbase for a reason that isn't totally clear. What are your thoughts on the matter?
