After launching No Man's Sky without many of the promised features, developer Hello Games has been under fire. The studio head Sean Murray has since promised to deliver free DLCs and content updates, but many of the customers have expressed their disappointment anyway.
In an interview (via Dualshockers) Sony Interactive Entertainment America President Shawn Layden talked about several topics, but most interesting was his take on the No Man's Sky situation.
Apparently they gave Hello Games room to work on their ambitious game, as this is how Sony can push game development. For No Man's Sky the ambitions were very high, and now Murray and his team are working to deliver on their dreams:
"I think Hello Games, Sean Murray and his team had an incredible vision on what they were going to create. Something never done before. And a very small team had a very huge ambition. Now, they're still working at it. They're still updating it. They're trying to get it closer to what their vision was. I played a lot when it came out."
He goes on to say how Sony don't want to stifle ambition, but there is no mention of the promotional work done up until the release.
"I think what we learned from that is that we don't want to stifle ambition. We don't want to stifle creativity. We don't want to put people into slots where they must execute against an action adventure path or a fighting path or a shooting path."
We're not sure how to read this in any other way than a good spin, but hopefully it doesn't mean that Sony endorse promoting ambition over realistic expectations in the future. What do you think of Sony's relationship with No Man's Sky?
