Facebook has officially announced its own gaming portal called Gameroom available on PC for Windows 7 and above. Gameroom let users play browser-based, ported mobile and native Gameroom games in a dedicated PC app. Facebook are said to take a 30 percent revenue cut on payments in games, much like the case is on Steam. While this may not seem very appealing to the core users of Steam and GOG, there is of course a huge market made up of more casual players as well.
Facebook announced the launch and name change from Facebook Games Arcade today at Unity game development platform conference. The new Unity 5.6 shipping next year will allow developers to export their games directly to Facebook Gameroom as well as to the WebGL standard.
