It would appear that the end is fast approaching for Nintendo's last home console, the Wii U, after reports suggested that production on the console will cease at the end of this week.

According to the report over on Eurogamer this Friday will be the last time a Wii U console is made, and apparently the site has had this confirmed by multiple sources .

As pointed out in the report, the last update from Nintendo had the console at just under 14 million units sold, which means that the Wii U pales in comparison to the Wii (with over 100 million units sold), the N64 (with 32 million sold), and even the Gamecube (21 million).

The news comes just days after the big reveal of the Switch, Nintendo's handheld-console hybrid, and it appears that the Kyoto-based company is now pinning all its hopes on the innovative new device, which is due to launch in March of next year.

More details when we have them.
