Microsoft have confirmed that they are introducing a new Xbox 360 controller on November 9 in the States, and next February in Europe as we previously reported. The new controller looks almost the same as the old one, but features a d-pad that goes from "a plus to a disc with the twist of the wrist". Amazing!

Oh well, I'm sure people who play games that uses the d-pad a lot will be interested to see whether this is enough of an improvement over the often criticised d-pad of the 360 controller. The colours on the face buttons are gone, and replaced by different shades of grey, and the analogue sticks are concave.

The new Xbox 360 controller will be sold in the States bundled with a play and charge kit for the royal sum of $65. It's not outrageous, but if you plan on replacing all four controllers it's a bit pricey, not to mention the fact that since it's only sold bundled with a play and charge kits, that you may already have.

Then again, it's not exactly essential to replace the old ones.

If you want to you can have a look at a Youtube video where Major Nelson shows off the new controller.
