The last issue of Famitsu magazine has shared a deep insight into the battle system of Nier: Automata. Platinum Games is developing a simple system with easy to connect combos, performed by pressing light and heavy attack buttons in different orders, very similar to other action games by the studio like Bayonetta.

Defence and attack also rely heavily on evasion. Dashing left or right at a certain time gives the player a few seconds of invincibility and opens a frame time window for stronger moves, but there will be an "Auto Mode" for beginners where the player just moves the character while the attacks and evades happen automatically.

The report also explains the weapons classes of the game. There are quick one-handed or heavy two-handed swords and also melee weapons, plus a Pod for shooting from longer distances that can also be upgraded.

Nier: Automata is set to release in Europe and America for PS4 and PC in early 2017. Does this combat system sound appealing to you?
