Rockstar have removed "illegitimately gained" GTA online currency from accounts, with players receiving a notice that their in-game cash balance has been adjusted.

Rockstar answered a question online about why money had been taken out of a particular player's account, and they responded by saying: "To keep the gameplay environment fair we have removed illegitimately gained in-game money from player accounts. If you received an alert saying that your shared bank balance was adjusted, that is because you had illegitimate funds in your account." Rockstar also said, however, that money purchased via Shark Cards are not affected by the rebalance.

On the Grand Theft Auto forums a screenshot of the message received by players affected was shared, saying that their account had been adjusted and that, although no further action would be taken this time, accounts with such currency may in the future may be subjected to the Cheater Pool. Is this a reasonable course of action for Rockstar, or should more severe punishments be in place?
