The Xbox 360 controller is to receive an update, Microsoft have confirmed - though currently the new design is set for a limited edition run to coincide with the release of Pro Evolution Soccer 2011. The wonky d-pad is widely regarded as being the most infuriatingly useless of any controller, handling like a two pound coin balanced atop a tic-tac. The reworked version will register 32 directions, and looks... well, pretty much identical.
Speaking to Eurogamer, a Microsoft spokesperson spoke: "The new limited-edition green wireless controller offers enhancements to d-pad functionality, which will add to the experience of playing games where the d-pad is the primary control mechanism. We're always looking to improve products and we made these changes based on feedback from gamers."
