This will come as no surprise to anyone who's been paying attention to gaming news the last 24 hours or so, but now it has has been officially confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming.

The next game in the open-world western series will be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the autumn of 2017, which means either there's no PC version planned (like the last one), or there's going to be a staggered release schedule (as we saw with Grand Theft Auto V).

"An epic tale of life in America's unforgiving heartland, the game's vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience," the developers wrote on Newswire.

Apart from that little literary tease we've got no further details at the time of writing, but Rockstar is promising to deliver the first trailer on October 20 (at 4pm BST / 5pm CET), so we can expect to learn a lot more in the coming days.

"With Red Dead Redemption 2, the team is working hard to push forward our vision for interactive entertainment in a truly living world," Rockstar's Sam Houser said. "We hope to deliver players an epic experience that builds upon everything we've learned making games."
