Unless you weren't among the very first to do so a pre-order of the Playstation VR headset haven't done you much good yet. The headset is now officially released, but in most parts of the world it's hard to track it down in shops. The reason is the number of pre-orders, that have far exceeded what Sony has been able to produce.

In fact, speaking to CNBC, SIEE president Jim Ryan confidently explained that Sony expect early adopter sales in the "hundreds of thousands" for PSVR, based on the strong indication of interest from the public:

"We know that the replenishment cycle is a good one, production is going exactly as we anticipated," Ryan explains. "We have made decisions to further increase capacity at the back end of 2016 and into 2017, so there are going to be a lot of PlayStation VRs around the world, whether that's enough to satisfy the demands of the market, we'll see."

Meanwhile we are still waiting for the one killer app for the new headset, but this should certainly serve as an incentive for Sony to push high quality games and software towards their new PS4 bound hardware.
